A Place to be

The word “Mismaloya” comes from the Nahuatl “michmaloyan” or “place where they catch fish with their hands”.

Mismaloya was a very quiet fishing community, located to the south of Puerto Vallarta until the film ‘The Night of the Iguana’ was shot in 1963, directed by John Huston and starring Richard Burton, Deborah Kerr, and Ava Garden, gaining great popularity because the media closely followed the new couple formed by Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. It was as a result of this movie that the small fishing town of Puerto Vallarta became internationally famous attracting tourists from around the world, as after the film, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor established Puerto Vallarta as their permanent home.
